Precautions for CNC machining

2022 09/21

CNC lathe processing can improve processing efficiency and create more value. The advent of CNC lathe machining freed the company from outdated machining techniques. The machining process of CNC lathes is similar to that of ordinary lathes, but since the machining of CNC lathes is one-time machining, all turning operations are completed by continuous automatic machining, so the following aspects should be paid attention to.

1. Reasonable selection of cutting amount for CNC lathe processing:

For high-efficiency metal cutting materials, cutting tools and cutting conditions are the three main factors. These determine machining time, tool life and machining quality. A cost-effective machining method must be a reasonable choice of cutting conditions.
2

Three elements of CNC lathe machining cutting conditions: cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut directly lead to tool damage. As cutting speed increases, the temperature of the tip increases, causing mechanical, chemical and thermal wear. Cutting speed is increased by 20% and tool life is reduced by 1/2.

2. Feed conditions for CNC lathe processing:

The feed conditions are related to the wear of the rear of the tool to a small extent. However, when the feed rate is high, the cutting temperature rises and the rear wear is large. It affects the tool less than the cutting speed. Although the depth of cut has no effect on the cutting speed and feed rate, in the case of small depth cuts, the hardened layer is produced by the cutting material, which also affects the life of the tool.

But in practice, the choice of tool life for CNC lathe machining is related to tool wear, machining dimensional changes, surface quality, cutting noise and heat treatment. When determining the processing conditions, it is necessary to study according to the actual situation. For difficult-to-machine materials, such as stainless steel and heat-resistant alloys, CNC lathes use coolants or rigid inserts.
